I've been rolling around the idea of sending out a weekly “newsletter” to all of you for a few months, and I think this is the right time. This will be an opportunity to let you know about any issues or events that are topical to that week/month in a way that’s not as intrusive as sending you a text message at a random time. I don’t get to see some of you as much as I used to now that I’ve begun work on our electrification project, and some of you weekend employees practically never see me, so I’m hoping this will give you another opportunity to ask questions or bring me your concerns. Just hit reply. 😁
The goal will never be to dump essays on you. I’ll try and keep it to a limited number of topics, touched on briefly. I’ll also put a “Contents” section at the top so you know what I’ll be covering. This will be a learning/evolving process, so the format may change, and I’m not sure if these will come out weekly, monthly, or somewhere in between.
And I will always try and end things on a light note with some fun/good news. Unfortunately, the good news at the end of this email is SO good it will be difficult to top it going forward.
Lastly, I just need to stress that this email is for Balboa Island Ferry employees only, so please don’t share any of its contents with anyone outside the company.
Last week was a huge milestone! We have finally begun our employee recognition program with our first Crew of the Month!

As Crew of the Month, they will both receive a $25 gift card to the business of their choice, and an enamel pin recognizing them as Employees of the Month for November! I'm hoping this will kickstart “positive tattling” in the company. Please let me know if you see one of your coworkers doing an awesome job! Heather and I will discuss and make a decision at the end of each month. We will definitely take your feedback into account as we make the selection of the next crew!
I’ve finally put together a video tutorial for the island side generator. The island generator is very similar to the peninsula one, but they are distinct enough that it needed its own video. The tutorial link is in the resources section of the online schedule, but I’ve also included it in this email.
It's STRONGLY recommended that all employees review both videos. They’ve been made with the intention to be used as a reference set up, but it would be to everyone’s advantage if the crew were somewhat familiar with the process ahead of time. We are getting into the stormy weather season, and the likelihood of power outages will only increase over these next few months.
